When he survived Sabor's attack, it put him on the High Council's radar, and they kept an eye on him as he grew. Sure enough, he became a great hero, and the Council contacted him to make him aware of the Friends. He protects the jungle and has a special link to the animal kingdom, allowing him to work with them and make sure that the Friends don't touch their world again. It's possible that Mowgli will take on a similar role in his jungle when he's older.
