Unlike the John Silver from Treasure Planet, this Long John is a mean old man seeking gold beyond his reckoning. The friends gave him great charisma to persuade Squire Trelawney Jr. to let him hire the crew for the treasure hunt. The friends don't have interest in treasure per se, but it does keep their evil hordes happy at least, and keeping it out of the hands of the council was paramount. Unfortunately, like many silvers before him, he failed. While he tried to escape with some loot to pay off the friends, the lifeboat he stole sank, and the friends abandoned him to live out his days marooned.
